I have Lumix GF3 camera and I would love to treat myself to a new lens and the one I was considering was the Panasonic mm but after reading some of the reviews I'm not so sure.
Please could someone advise me as to what's the best lens, if there are lenses that at not Panasonic and will be compatible with my camera. I'm going to Thailand in June and really would love a lense that is easy to handle and will give me good shots from a distance. I am also interested in Macro but I will save that for another day. Many Thanks Jane. How much do you have to spend? I think you may have your models mixed up - Panasonic have a and a Do you want a single lens that does it all?
Olympu slenses also fit the Panasonic body but do not have image stabilisation so you will be stuck with Panasonic lenses. I have the and I am quite happy using in place of more expensive lenses when I am 'out and about' or an alternative is to go for the dual-lens option of and where the gives you a good, compact lens for walking around the streets.
If you can afford it I would also supplement it with the 14mm f2. Your camera can use any lens with a Micro Four Thirds mount, and this includes lenses from Olympus and third-party makers like Sigma and Samyang. Uncorrected RAW files show much higher amounts. Corners were soft wide-open, but sharpen-up when the lens is stopped-down.
Chromatic Aberration. Chromatic aberration in the corners with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3's 14mm kit lens is low to moderate in terms of pixel count in JPEGs, being somewhat exacerbated by the blurring, but coloration is fairly dull and bluish.
As usual, color fringing gradually reduces in brightness and width as it approaches the center of the image, where it is almost non-existent. Corner Softness. Some corner shading "vignetting" is also noticeable from the difference in brightness of the center versus corner crops above, especially wide-open.
Vignetting also reduces when the lens is stopped-down, as expected. Chromatic Aberration Correction. RAW files converted with the bundled SilkyPix software are automatically corrected for CA and geometric distortion, so we used dcraw for the uncorrected conversions above right.
As you can see, the Panasonic GF3's Shading Compensation feature reduces corner shading quite effectively with the 14mm kit lens. Shading Compensation is off by default, not available when shooting video, and is not available with all lenses. Overall, a very good performance for a wide-angle pancake kit lens, and better performance than the typical zoom kit lens. Excellent results here. The images above were taken from our standardized test shots.
