Even though the work may be harder, some of it can still be kind of fun. You will be assigned a lot of projects in 6th grade. There is a project in math class called the geometry book in which you take some shapes from a piece of paper and find pictures of them in the real world. Then you put each page together and make a book. I think that this was a long but fun project.
You also do an invention project for social studies where you choose an invention and write about how it changes through the years. You have to choose an invention created during the s to the s. The project can be fun if you do it about something you like or have.
I did my invention project on the electric guitar. It was fun because I got to learn about the electric guitar. Another project is a poem book you will create in English class where you write a lot of different poems and put them into a big book. Those are some of the interesting projects in 6th grade. There was also a new subject called oceanography where you learn about the ocean and all the sea animals that live in the ocean. It is a fun subject if you like art because you do a lot of art projects in this class.
Depending on your teachers, you may spend a lot more time doing homework; I know I did. So I am thinking they will be similar to my 5th graders being they are the head of the school, about to go to middle school, etc. Am I right about that? Any other pointers you can give me for interviewing for this position? So you'll have some students who really struggle with abstract thought, and others who just seem to "get it. Sixth graders are more interested in things happening around them in their community and world and want to discuss these things more.
As the other poster said, they get a little deeper with their discussions and like to to talk A LOT! Sixth graders are my fav! Good luck with the interview! On the flip side the hormal stuff can make me crazy. I just try to remember they are sort of fragile, and the drama is very real to them!! I, too am going from a 5th grade classroom to a 6th! I was assuming that they'd be quite a bit alike but you can never be sure!

I have taught 5th and I think they can be fun, funny, social, like to learn, and work well in partners and groups if structured and taught correctly. I like teaching 5th and I didn't like at all teaching 7th. When I subbed in 6th, they were too similar to 7th to me. Feb 15, Yes, I easily like 5th better than 6th. That is my opinion. Feb 16, My sixth graders also fun, funny, social, like to learn, and love working in groups and with partners.
The sixth graders are also beginning to understand sarcasm, which is fun as well. My 5th graders run out to recess and try to save swings for their friends.
